Downtown Rochester is a host to a myriad of boutique shops, popular restaurants, and an art gallery that rivals a museum. The enchanting main street is known for its holiday Christmas display, where each store is covered from the sidewalk to roof with colored strings of light. Among the wonderful storefronts is an urban winery called Fieldstone Winery, where startling combinations have morphed from dreams to ideas, to bottles of unique vintages.
The self-named “snob-free” tasting room is the perfect place for a date night or a party of friends. While they have a delicious cheese board, the staff also encourages visitors to order carry-out from a nearby restaurant to enjoy with your wine. You can taste 4 different wines for $7.50 per person, and even better, stay for happy hour where all glass pours are an unbelievable 50% off.
The menu lists traditional wines like Chardonnay, Viognier, Riesling, and Pinot Noir, which are all top-notch. Experimentation begins with their fruity mixes, like the Dragon Fruit Blush, an exotic blend of dragon fruit and raspberries. The Black Raspberry Merlot has notes of red berries and a sweet tang, while the Pomegranate Zinfandel is refreshingly sweet. Fieldstone carries two ice wines, making it difficult to choose a favorite, with the White Ice created with Riesling grapes, giving an aromatic, zesty, and lingering finish. The Red Ice is made with cabernet franc and is sweet with notes of currants, strawberry, rhubarb, and cranberry. Fieldstone has also delved into the world of hard cider, with eight different options like the Espresso Royale (3 North Vines Collaboration infused with Lexington Coffee), Snow Day (Cranberry and Elderberry), and Blueberry Sunrise (Blood orange and blueberry). From a traditional dry white or red wine drinker, to those who prefer something blindingly sweet, Fieldstone caters to every taste with a sense of whimsy, fun, and playfulness.
